About The Centre:
Founded in 2016, The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking (The Centre) is a national charity
dedicated to ending all types of human trafficking in Canada. We work to mobilize system change by
collaborating and working with various stakeholders, including people with lived experience of human
trafficking, all levels of government, frontline service providers, and private sector businesses to advance
best practices. The Centre supports the anti-human trafficking movement through education and
awareness, policy development and advocacy, research and data collection, convening and knowledge
transfer.

In May 2019, The Centre launched the Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline (the Hotline), providing a
confidential, multilingual service, operating 24/7 to connect victims and survivors with immediate and
localized support, including social services and/or law enforcement if they so choose, as well as receive
third-party tips from the public.

The Role:
The Manager of Marketing and Communications reports to the Executive Director and the
Director of Stakeholder Relations. They are responsible for developing and implementing proactive and
integrated media relations and communication strategies. An integral member of The Centre’s core team,
the Manager of Marketing and Communications leads the organization’s media relations efforts,
working with the news media to tell the story about trafficking in Canada and engage the public. The Manager of Marketing and Communications will develop strong working relationships with journalists, serve as the primary contact for English and, ideally, French-language media covering human trafficking issues within Canada. This role also includes acting as a media spokesperson when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications (30%)

  • Work collaboratively across departments and engage in proactive media relations, identifying key
    opportunities to raise awareness of the realities of human trafficking in Canada
  • Develop and implement an annual media relations plan that identifies approaches, tactics, and
    measurable outcomes in support of The Centre’s strategic goals and objectives; ensure The Centre’s public positioning on public policy issues is communicated to internal and external
    stakeholders
  • Curate, plan and execute social media strategies including, collaborative idea generation, content
    creation, design, scheduling, posting, monitoring and engaging with partners to expand The
    Centre’s digital reach

Media Relations and Monitoring (70%)

  • Coordinate the implementation of media relations strategies, adapting them for the specific
    needs of both Francophone and Anglophone Canadian markets, leveraging The Centre’s
    programs, stories, and people to further the goals and mission of the organization
  • Create media collateral assets such as press releases, key messages, FAQs, backgrounders, and
    oversee translation as required
  • Prepare spokespeople for interviews, including providing key messaging,
    background information on the publication, journalist, and direction of the interview (if available)
  • Provide media training to spokespeople in the organization, and serve as
    spokesperson as required
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with bloggers, influencers, external service provider partners
    and ambassadors/partners as needed to increase digital engagement
  • Develop and manage systems for monitoring, analyzing, reporting, and sharing media coverage
    on The Centre and issues of importance, provide tracking and reports to the Executive Director,
    and other relevant departments
  • Develop materials to support the strategic objectives of the organization including blogs, op/eds,
    emails and website content as required
  • Develop and oversee The Centre’s social media engagement strategy to promote compelling and
    consistent communications with external audiences.
  • Coordinate and manage the dissemination of hard copies of The Centre’s awareness materials to
    external partners, communities, and associations

Experience & Education:

  • Fluency in French is an asset
  • Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field and/
    or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in communications and public relations in a
    complex environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work from a trauma-informed, anti-oppression, person-centred lens with
    a demonstrated ability to relate well to a variety of persons and stakeholder groups
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with attention to detail, including editing skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills with a proven track record in completing projects on
    time and within budget
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to assess complex issues and systems related to
    trafficking and exploitation as well as understanding the concerns of stakeholders, including
    individuals with lived experience, the media, the public, partners and prospective donors
  • Proven brand management experience and ability to identify emerging issues that may present a
    risk or opportunity for The Centre. Ability to identify potential issues or conflicts and develop
    action plans to address and mitigate them
  • Demonstrated success in executing and tracking earned media campaigns
  • Proven in-depth understanding of the best uses of print and broadcast media
  • Understanding and ease of use with a variety of platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter,
    Instagram, Meltwater, Canva, Mailchimp etc.

Salary range: $70,000 – 80,000 depending on professional background and experience, with competitive
benefits and an RRSP matching program following a three-month probationary period.
Job location: This position is fully remote; candidates must reside in Canada.
